About Helios Optics
As a British registered brand of sports optics, Helios that has been around for nearly 50 years and whilst in the UK they have a loyal following, i think that it is fairly accurate to say that the Helios brand fairly unknown in the US where I think they are pretty hard to find.

Indeed I did not know too much about them until I was contacted by their UK distributors who asked me if I would like to review a few of their models. I of course accepted as I love taking a look and testing models and brands that I have not seen before and these reviews will shortly be up on the site.

The Helios Binocular Range

In the past, Helios was perhaps best known for the very solidly-built porro prism binoculars that they imported from Soviet-bloc countries which had excellent optics for their price. Modern Helios optics have come a long way since those days but the philosophy of the brand is still to offer great optics that offer possibly unparalleled value for money. Today Helios produce a wide range of mostly entry to mid-level binoculars, that include specialist devices like theatre/opera glasses marine binoculars and giant observation binoculars. The also have a wide selection of compact porro and roof prism binoculars as well as full sized roof and porro prism designs. As far as I am aware, Helios binoculars are not available in the US.

As well as Helios binoculars, you can also find Helios branded spotting scopes and monoculars.

Helios Lightwing HR BinocularsHelios Lightwing HR Binoculars

The mid-priced Lightwing HR series from Helios comprise six models, with either 32mm or 42mm lenses and with higher end ED (Extra low Dispersion) glass options for the 42mm sizes.

Important optical features that are constant throughout the series are phase corrected BaK-4 prisms that are also Di-Electric coated, fully multi-coated optics.

The bodies are fully sealed and made from a Magnesium alloy and covered in a thin rubber armouring as is the norm these days.

The range comes with a 5 year warranty as well as the standard accessories.

I was highly impressed with the 8x42 ED version that I tested that not only delivers a stunning image, but has a very wide field of view and other features that for me make this one of the better bins within this price range that I have used.
