Introducing the FUJINON TECHNO-STABI TS-L1640 and TS-L2040 Binoculars

January 15, 2025 – FUJIFILM Optical Devices Division, has unveiled two exciting additions to its renowned TECHNO-STABI binocular lineup: the FUJINON TECHNO-STABI TS-L1640 (TS-L1640) and FUJINON TECHNO-STABI TS-L2040 (TS-L2040).
According to Fujinon, these two new models were designed with birdwatchers in mind, however, they also go on to mention that these powerful 16x and 20x magnification binoculars are also ideal for marine enthusiasts, outdoor adventurers, concertgoers, and sports fans.
Mike C. Northrup, Senior Manager of Strategic Business Development at FUJIFILM North America Corporation, described the innovation behind these models: “FUJINON TECHNO-STABI TS-L binoculars challenge conventional thinking about high-magnification optics, especially for birdwatchers. We’ve engineered a way to give birders and other outdoor enthusiasts unprecedented magnification-stabilised while maintaining the compact form and image quality that they demand.”
Advanced Features and Specifications
Building on the flagship performance of the TECHNO-STABI TS-X1440 and the compact design of the TS12x28WP and TS16x28WP models, the TS-L1640 and TS-L2040 deliver powerful magnification with exceptional portability and stabilization. Key features include:
1. Powerful 16x and 20x Magnification
Both models provide unparalleled magnification, making them highly versatile for various applications. For instance:
- The TS-L1640 offers 16x magnification, making objects 160 feet away appear as if they are just 10 feet away.
- The TS-L2040 provides 20x magnification, reducing the perceived distance of objects 200 feet away to just 10 feet.

2. Bright and Dynamic 40mm Objective Lens
A 40mm objective lens ensures that both models allow a good level of light into the binoculars, producing a bright, detailed, and dynamic view. This results in images that are up to 39% brighter compared to the compact TS12x28WP and TS16x28WP models.
However, I would add that it is interesting that they did not go with the more standard and slightly larger 42mm lenses. With such high magnifications, the exit pupil will be very small and therefore these will not be an ideal choice in low light.

3. High Level of Image Stabilization
High magnification often amplifies minor physical movements, resulting in shaky visuals. To counter this, the TS-L1640 and TS-L2040 feature ±3° of electronic image stabilization, ensuring steady, clear views even in demanding conditions.

4. High Quality Optics
Equipped with premium optical components and coatings, these binoculars should hopefully deliver an excellent quality image:
- Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass reduces chromatic aberration.
- FUJINON EBC Multicoatings enhance light transmission and reduce glare.
- Phase correction coated prisms ensure sharp, high-contrast images.
5. Long Battery Life and Rugged Durability
Designed for extended use in outdoor environments:
- Powered by two AAA batteries, they offer up to 30 hours of continuous operation and feature an auto-off function to conserve power.
- Certified IPX7 waterproof, they can withstand immersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.
- Optimal performance in temperatures ranging from 14°F to 122°F (-10°C to 50°C).

6. Compact and Lightweight Design
Weighing just 30 ounces and measuring 7.3 x 4.8 x 2.8 inches (185.5 x 122 x 72 mm), these binoculars are approximately 34% lighter than the larger TS-X1440 model. Their compact size and included hand and neck straps make them easy to carry, whether on a hike or at a crowded live event.

Pricing and Availability
The FUJINON TECHNO-STABI TS-L1640 and TS-L2040 binoculars will be available starting January 31, 2025, with suggested retail prices of $1,199.95 USD for the TS-L1640 and $1,299.95 USD for the TS-L2040. For current prices and where to buy, check here.
Conclusion
I think both models look great and with the TS-L1640 and TS-L2040, FUJIFILM continues to invest in image stabilization binoculars and the capabilities of high-magnification optics. I am very much looking forward to getting my hands on a set to fully test and review.
