Swarovski CL Curio 7x21 Binoculars – Shot Show 2025

At the 2025 SHOT Show, I had the opportunity to meet with Evan from Swarovski Optik, who introduced me to the Swarovski CL Curio 7x21 binoculars. Designed in collaboration with renowned Australian industrial designer Marc Newson, the CL Curio’s main goal is to blend an exceptional optical performance with an ultra-compact and stylish form factor.

These binoculars are the lightest and smallest in the Swarovski binocular lineup and one of the smallest in their class overall, making them an ideal carry-anywhere companion for a variety of activities.

Optical Performance and Viewing Comfort

Swarovski has a reputation for optical excellence, and despite the tiny 21mm objective lenses the CL Curio does not disappoint.

To begin with and partly because they have kept the magnification down to a moderate 7x, the CL Curio has a very impressive field of view of 135m at 1,000m (405 ft/1,000 yds), ensuring you get a broad and immersive viewing experience. Ideal for spotting and following birds, but also any on-field action should you take them to a sporting event.

The 7x magnification also provides a more steady image than higher powered devices, reducing handshake and making prolonged observation comfortable. The close focus distance of 2.5m (8.2 ft) allows users to enjoy sharp detail even when observing nearby subjects.

For eyeglass wearers, the CL Curio is pretty accommodating and looks to have plenty of eye-relief and with their adjustable eye-cups I was able to achieve the full field of view when I tested them on the stand whilst wearing my glasses.

Ultra-Lightweight & Durable Construction

Weighing in at just 250g (8.9 oz), the CL Curio is exceptionally light, making it easy to carry in a jacket pocket or small bag. The folding bridge design enhances portability, allowing for effortless storage when not in use. It can easily fit into a shirt pocket for example.

Despite its compact form, durability is not compromised. The binoculars feature a rugged aluminum housing, ensuring longevity. Additionally, they are dustproof and waterproof up to 4m (13 ft), thanks to inert gas filling, which prevents internal fogging and protects against the elements.

Stylish Design by Marc Newson

Swarovski partnered with Marc Newson, known for his work with brands like Apple, to craft a sleek and modern design. The CL Curio comes in two color options: classic black and burnt orange, catering to different personal styles while maintaining a premium aesthetic.

Designed for Versatility

One of the standout aspects of the CL Curio 7x21 is its versatile usability. Whether for nature observation, cultural events, travel, or outdoor adventures, these binoculars fit seamlessly into various lifestyles:

  • Nature Observation – Perfect for birdwatching and wildlife enthusiasts looking for high-quality optics in a compact form.
  • Cultural & Sports Events – From the opera to theater performances or sporting events, the CL Curio enhances the experience by bringing distant subjects into crisp detail.
  • Travel & City Exploration – Lightweight and pocketable, these binoculars provide stunning perspectives on urban architecture and landscapes.
  • Outdoor Activities – A great companion for hiking, mountaineering, canoeing, and camping, offering premium optics without the burden of extra weight.

Accessories & Smartphone Compatibility

To enhance usability, Swarovski provides a functional accessory package, including a field bag, carrying strap, and eyepiece cover. Additionally, the VPA 2 Variable Phone Adapter and CA-Bs Clamp Adapter allow users to connect their smartphone to the CL Curio, making it easy to capture and share stunning images from their observations.

Conclusions

The CL Curio is at the pinnacle of what Swarovski’s CL Series (Compact & Light) is all about, delivering top-tier optics in a tiny and lightweight form factor.

Indeed my most used binoculars are my compacts because they are so easy to take everywhere, so I just do as you never know when you will need a better view of something.

So for those looking for the very best ultra-compact, true pocket-sized binoculars the CL Curio is an excellent choice.
