Nikon PROSTAFF 3S Binoculars Announced
Nikon announces their new PROSTAFF 3S binoculars, available in 8x42 and 10x42 configurations and aimed at the mid range market:
Main Features
Forming part of the already well established series of Nikon PROSTAFF binoculars which all contain fully waterproof, roof prism models, the new PROSTAFF 3S binoculars are only currently available with 42mm objective lenses and come with either 8x or 10x magnifications.
The roof prisms are silver mirror coated and they have multi-coated lenses. The body is fully o-ring sealed and are said by the company to be waterproof and tested to a depth of 1m for 10 minutes. The shell is filled with nitrogen gas to ensure that internal lenses do not fog up.
The twist-up eye-cups have multi position stops and both the 10x42 and 8x42 models have a good amount of eye-relief making them a good choice for those who wear glasses.

Have you been able to try these out and compare them to any other 8x42 or 10x42 binos?
Hi Gary – sorry as of yet I have not been able to get hold of these Nikon binoculars to review.
These are fantastic binoculars. I have compared them against Swarovski, Ziess and Minox, and the clarity and quality is as good through my eyes. They are lighter and only a fraction of the cost. I honestly believe that it’s all about name and marketing that drives the price of German optics. Not quality. Nikon are as good if not better when you take cost into consideration.
Hi Terry, Many thanks for the feedback, it is always appreciated
Hi Garry – Just have had some really positive feedback on these that you may be interested in reading (see comment from Terry Wright above)
Honestly, I’ve found these Prostaff 3s 8x42 fantastic. I actually took them to my gun dealers who sell Swarovski, Ziess & Minox, and he was stunned by the quality for price. He had to agree that from what he could see they were just as good.
They sound great and I would love to test them out. My only personal problem is that I find it really difficult (actually almost impossible) to get huge companies like Nikon to send me products to review.
I you would like to write a short review of them from your point of view, I would be more than happy to publish it here.
